Hardness

Annealed hardness, shall not exceed 235 Brinell (BHN).

 

A steel specimen having a thickness no greater than one inch shall exhibit a minimum hardness of 50 HRC, when air cooled, after heating for 30 minutes at 1850°F in a protective atmosphere, or when using a non-protective atmosphere, insure the sample has appropriate oversize allowance.

Advantage

a. Tooling materials to be used in the construction of a die casting die for casting Aluminum, Magnesium and ZA alloys, should be high quality tool steel such as Premium Quality H-13 especially for part designs with critical features or if high production runs are being contemplated. 

b. Longer die life.

4. Application:

H13 steel is widely used in aluminum extrusion dies of automobiles/tractors/hardware tool industry and roller forging dies/ roll forging dies and extrusion dies for bearing industry/ die-casting dies. Moreover it can be used in small press forging dies/ pipe piercing plugs/ shell extrusion dies.

 

5.Characteristic:

It is general-purpose hot die steel containing chromium-molybdenum-vanadium (Cr-Mo-V) alloy with the characteristics. It is applicable to be used in die-casting, hot extrusion and hot forging die, with advantages as follows:

With good cold-hot fatigue resistance

With high thermal strength under the high temperature of 600

With good fracture toughness and ductility

With good dimensional stability for heat treatment and hardenability

With good polishing performance
